Continental is harvesting potatoes

22 August 2024

The harvesting of potatoes has begun in the fields of the Potato cluster of Continental. We started digging up early food and seed varieties of the crop. The work started in Lviv and Ternopil regions. This season, the Company is growing potatoes on an area of 1870 hectares in Lviv and Ternopil regions: 1150 hectares are for chip potatoes, 429 hectares for food potatoes and 292 hectares for seed potatoes.

This season had its own peculiarities for potatoes, as well as for other crops. In particular, planting started a little later due to excessive rainfall. However, due to favorable weather conditions during the growing season, the crop grew its root system well, which created a good potential for productivity.

"In general, we expect to achieve the planned potato yields for the Company, and for some varieties we forecast higher yields than planned. In some places, drought and prolonged high temperatures affected the crop, which to some extent limited its potential. However, in general, we do not see any critical impact on yields. Most areas had sufficient moisture supply," says Kostiantyn Shytiuk, COO of Continental, "We plan to harvest about 65 thousand tons of potatoes this season and finish digging in the second half of October."

The warehouse facilities of Continental Farmers Group are ready to receive the new harvest. Some of them were upgraded ahead of the season: air recirculation equipment was installed. The storage boxes for the 2024 harvest were also partially updated. As a reminder, the Company is a leading potato producer in Ukraine and owns modern potato storage facilities in Lviv and Ternopil regions.
