Work began after rains, which had a positive effect on soil structure and created favourable conditions for high-quality potato harvesting. In total, the Company will harvest tubers from an area of 2,100 hectares this season, with harvesting continuing until the end of October.
A special feature of this year's harvesting campaign at Continental is the introduction of innovative technological solutions in response to the current challenges facing the industry, which will also strengthen the Company's leading position in the potato production market. Continental has made another step in large-scale capital investments, purchasing more than €1.85 million worth of the latest technology and equipment for potato production since the beginning of the year.
A key acquisition as part of these investments is first self-propelled four-row third-generation potato harvester with a capacity of 460 hp in Ukraine. This unique innovative equipment has already been put into operation and is successfully harvesting potatoes on Continental's fields in the Lviv region, where it demonstrates high standards of efficiency and maximum productivity. The technical characteristics of the new harvester make it possible to work even in the most difficult field conditions, as well as to adapt to different separation conditions in order to ensure the best quality of the harvested product, which is critically important for seed and chip potatoes, for which quality standards are extremely high.
As part of these investments, Continental also purchased a whole range of related equipment. Technical upgrades include a trailer loader, receiving hopper, optical sorter, potato picker, and equipment for calibrating and storing products.
