The Smart Garden

An educational and social project for schoolchildren from Continental Farmers Group. Grow your first crop with us! Take care of those who defend the country!

The goal of the initiative is to interest children and young people in agriculture, show them the prospects of modern agricultural technologies, give them practical skills in gardening, entrepreneurship, and encourage financial literacy and volunteerism.

Scaling up

Crops: vegetables, medicinal herbs (mallow, marigold)

The Smart Garden is growing in quantity and quality, continuing to popularize agriculture. More than fifty schoolchildren are already participating in the project and, in addition to vegetables, they are beginning to grow medicinal herbs such as mallow and marigold. During the season, the young farmers collected more than 200 kilograms of flowers! The raw materials were sold to cooperatives that deal with medicinal herbs. Now the children understand agriculture is about profits and prospects.

2023

International support for the project

Crops: vegetables, herbs, melons, gourds, peanuts

The project is supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ukraine, two international breeding companies, and a Ukrainian manufacturer of biological plant protection products. More than 150 young farmers from Ternopil, Khmelnytskyi, and Lviv regions grow even more crops: tomatoes, sweet and hot peppers, zucchini and zucchini, cucumbers, melons, and watermelons. Candied pumpkins are used to make candied fruit for the military. Peanuts are harvested and filled with honey to make a healthy snack, which is sent to the defenders along with candied fruit, dry borscht sets, and herbal teas.

2025

Core value — education and development

Crops: borscht vegetables, solanaceous, melons, and greens
The project brings together 1,000 schoolchildren from 18 regions of Ukraine. A total of 57 teams cultivate more than three hectares of land. Smart Garden is not just about vegetable beds — it's an educational space where children learn agronomy, vegetable growing, and entrepreneurship. Online courses, consultations, and meetings with agronomists from Continental and partner companies make learning both accessible and in-depth. The initiative is supported by leading international companies: Rijk Zwaan, Nunhems, and Enza Zaden provide high-quality seeds, while BTU Zhyva Zemlya and Kisson supply safe biofertilizers and plant protection products. Volunteering remains at the heart of the project: part of the harvest is donated for charitable purposes — including dried borscht kits and other treats for defenders.

2020

Successful start

Crops: beets, carrots, onions, mini corn

The project is being launched in a pilot format. Two dozen children from the Ternopil region receive seeds, fertilizers and expert support from the Company's agronomists and start their journey in agriculture. As a result of the season, they mastered basic farming skills, fell in love with agriculture, harvested their first crop and visited the assets of the Continental Farmers Group.

2022

Volunteering

Crops: vegetables, medicinal herbs (mallow, marigold)

More than a hundred project participants begin to gain volunteer experience in addition to agricultural skills. The children grow vegetables on their own, from which they later make dry soup kits for the. They use mallow and marigold to make a special blue and yellow tea called Glory to Ukraine. As a result, the Smart Garden managed to deliver more than 1.5 thousand nutritious and tasty packages to the defenders of Ukraine.

2024

Nationwide scale

Crops: borscht vegetables, solanaceous, and melons

The Smart Garden project spans the entire country — from Zakarpattia to Donetsk region. Three hundred schoolchildren participate by growing vegetables commonly used in borscht, as well as melons and solanaceous crops. A special focus is placed on supporting defenders: the harvest grown by the children is used to make dried borscht kits, pumpkin candied snacks, and beet chips. Hundreds of packages with nutritious food are sent to the front lines for Ukrainian defenders. For the first time, we are launching financial literacy trainings to help children understand the value of their work. We also organize field trips and meetings with agronomists.

The project goes beyond
villages to cities

This version of the Smart Garden introduces the agricultural sector to young people living in big cities. Here, agronomy is combined with engineering: students grow microgreens on a rack with automatic irrigation and lighting, sell the harvest to local restaurants, and use the proceeds to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine - a real business constructor! Participants are responsible for all the processes they control on their own, learning the basics of economics and socially responsible entrepreneurship. The project also promotes a culture of healthy eating!
